Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you provide treatment?
Mind-Body Pediatric Psychiatry offers 100% secure telehealth services for children and adolescents residing anywhere in Illinois. By utilizing high-quality virtual video platforms, we bring expert psychiatric care directly to your home, eliminating the stress of commutes and allowing your child to remain in their most comfortable environment.
Is seeing a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner the same as seeing a Psychiatrist?
Both Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) and Psychiatrists are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions using both medication and therapy.
- Our Approach: We follow a nursing model of care, which emphasizes a holistic, family-centered perspective.
- Quality: Research consistently shows that PMHNPs provide care equal in quality, effectiveness, and patient satisfaction to that of physicians.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (Commercial Plans). For families with other insurance providers, we operate on a self-pay basis. We strive to make reimbursement easy:
- Superbills: We can provide a detailed “superbill” for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.
- Thrizer: We utilize Thrizer to help streamline the claims process and reduce your upfront costs.
What is the initial appointment process?
Your journey begins with a comprehensive 60-minute diagnostic intake evaluation. This allows us to deep-dive into your child’s history, symptoms, and goals.
- Flexible Attendance: This session can include both parents and the child, or parents may attend alone to discuss sensitive history or concerns privately.
- Child Session: If parents attend the first hour alone, we will schedule a separate 30-minute follow-up specifically for the child.
How often will we have follow-up appointments?
Our follow-up cadence is individualized, but we prioritize close monitoring during the start of treatment:
- Starting Medication: If a new medication is prescribed, we typically follow up in 2 weeks, then again at the 4-week mark.
- Maintenance: Once your child is stable, sessions may be spaced to every 1–2 months.
- Minimum Requirement: To ensure safety and continuity of care, we require a telehealth visit at a minimum of every 3 months.
How soon can my child be seen?
We understand that when a child is struggling, every day counts. We pride ourselves on having no long waitlists. Most new patients can be scheduled for an initial evaluation within 1–2 weeks.
What ages do you work with?
We specialize in pediatric mental health, working with children and adolescents from ages 3 to 17. Our treatments are developmentally tailored to meet your child exactly where they are.
Do you offer holistic and integrative mental health care?
Absolutely. We believe in treating the whole child, not just a set of symptoms. While we provide expert medication management, we also integrate:
- Nutrition & Supplements: Exploring how diet and micronutrients impact brain health.
- Lifestyle Medicine: Focusing on sleep hygiene, physical movement, and screen-time management.
- Mindfulness: Incorporating stress-reduction techniques to help children self-regulate.
What conditions do you treat?
We provide comprehensive care for a wide range of pediatric mental health concerns, including ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Depression, OCD, trauma-related symptoms, and Behavioral & Emotional Regulation Challenges.
